Quite a tidy desk today as I've been sewing again dowstairs on the dining table - I've finished the first of my 'sweetie jar' bags (see small photo). If anyone has any idea as to why my sewing machine has suddenly started 'missing' stitches, could you please let me know - it appears to be sewing normally but when you look closely there are places where the top and bottom threads are not linking together, but just sitting on top of the fabric.
The workdesk photo shows the start of an easel card I've been making, to try out the large Nestabilities dies I bought recently when they were reduced by Craft Superstore. The stamp came free with Quick Cards magazine and is called Annabelle's Meadow, by Wild Rose Studio - still waiting to be inked up! Visit all the other desks this week, by going to Julia's blog HERE.

OOh, I'm the 1st comment…. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that bag. It's fun, and the colors are awesome. I wish I could help ya out with your sewing question, but I don't have the greatest relationship with my machine. I really need to get one though, cuz I wanna make one of those bags. Have a great week. (((HUGS)))

Gorgeous card and bag, love those large nesties! That happened to me with my sewing machine, changing the needle worked for me!
ReplyDeleteYup, still Tuesday here, we are 7 hours behind the UK, only 7.30pm here. If I wait until Wednesday to post it is Wednesday evening over there and I missed the party! I only post at this time when Julia is posting in the wee hours though, when she posts later in the morning I set it to post at midnight!

Love the bag and the material is brilliant, can't help on the sewing problem, a mystery! :( Your card looks lovely, they are very large Nestabilities! Annette #8
ReplyDeleteThat's a really lovely card (and stamp). And those dies are impressive, too. I can't help you much with the sewing, but could it be your tension? Do you have a machine that has both top and bottom tension? Mine doesn't, but I've been watching a few sewing shows that tell how to set the tension in the bobbin. Happy WOYWW from #2.
ReplyDeleteohoo love BIG die-cuts they look sooo useful! The card just proves we crafters 'must have!'
ReplyDeleteHappy Crafting!
Happy WOYWW!

You might try changing your sewing machine needle, that is what I always had to do, but make sure you have the correct needle for the fabric your using. You bag turned out really cute.

I had the same problem with my sewing machine awhile age, I think the problem was the bobbin, or the tension. Love that little bag and the easel card. Happy crafting #13

ReplyDeleteHullo there Bernice ah love your new dies they look fab but too big for my bug :D wonderful wee bags too.. re the missing stitches it is your tension that needs resetting look up your manual for correct way to set tension for the material you are working with, think it maybe too tight?..
ReplyDeleteI think that is what - hope it helps.. Happy WOYWW, thanks for sharing, Shaz in Oz.x #30
I am loving the look of your large shaped Easel Card using your nesties. I am yet to try any thing other than square and circles for this type of card. Your bag is just adorable too! I don't sew much so can't help you with your stitching problems sorry. Enjoy your week. Danie #34

That is such a pretty bag! I must check out how to make easel cards: there is a YOUTube tutorial - is there? I wonder why the sewing machine is doing that? Maybe someone will be able to suggest a reason later. Have a great WOYWW! Julie Ann x #45
ReplyDeleteyou probably need to change the needle...
ReplyDeletecleaning, oiling and rethreading also could help.
Love your bag.
Happy WOYWW and I wish you a lovely week.

Hi Bernice - love your card - those dies look fabulous - the sewing machine thing sounds like timing to me - the bottom isn't keeping up with the top - I was told you should have your machine serviced periodically - but then I haven't touched mine in years... good luck - Happy WOYWW - Mxx #87
ReplyDeleteHi Bernice, love your bag, the fabric is gorgeous. And your easel card base is beautiful - unfortunately, those dies are much to big for my wee Cuttlebug. I can't offer any more advice for the sewing machine than you have already had but my first check would be for fluff, it's surprising the trouble a bit of fluff can cause, failing that a new needle might do the trick. Hope you manage to sort the problem out. Enjoy your day and have a great week. Elizabeth x #47
ReplyDeleteThat bag is so pretty and the easel card looks like it will be fab when it is done. Thanks for sharing. Happy WOYWW. Caro x (#78)
ReplyDeleteLoving the sweetie bag! With regards to your machine, give it a good clean with an old toothbrush, clean out any fluff. Check your tension dial too. Sometimes they move by themselves! I'd recommend getting it serviced and ask the servicer what is wrong with it. Lucy #67 x
ReplyDeleteEveryone above has already suggested what I would have said!! Good luck, hope you get it sorted out....
ReplyDeleteLove that sweetie jar fabric, it goes very well with the contrast fabric too! I love making bags..they're my go to when I can't think what else to make!
Hugs, LLJ 46 xx
Cute bag, lovely use of the fabric. Like the huge nesties, my word, they will make a great basis for mini book and journal pages.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty card Bernice, I have that stamp and haven't used it yet either. Love the bag! Hope you're still enjoying the warm weather.

Have you taken the bobbin race out and cleaned away all the fluff around there and Under the feed dogs (teeth). This usually does the trick.

I am afraid I cannot help with your sewing machine problems. Mine is a VERY elderly Singer, which Dad bought for Mum immediately after the end of WW2, and that seems to go on for ever. I have only just changed the main drive belt, which was the original - not bad for quality, and the new one cost more than the whole machine did originally. I love that new Nestie. However, you have just cost me more money as seeing that reminded me that I needed magnetic sheets for storage. Your bag is just perfect and such a pretty fabric. Thank you for your visit. I think we are on the finishing straight with the roof, depending on the threatened thunder storms this week. However, they do have some work to do inside at some point so that may get done until the storms go away. Have a great week. xx Maggie #18
